Today we went to the heart of TN. A double-wide on several acres of lush, green land and experienced a true blue pig pickin'. It was awesome, and the epitome of TN. There were plenty of baked beans, potato salad and cole slaw to go around, not to mention the 400 lb pig spread out over the coals for everyone to see. DB was a bit apprehensive all morning, and when we got there and I showed him the pig, it just reaffirmed his beliefs that he didn't want to eat a pig. Sausage in the mornings is something totally different. He couldn't believe how sad that was. However, after a couple hours, there he was, pickin' meat right outta that pig just like a true southern boy.
Here are a couple more reasons that we are really warming up to this place:
1. Duct taping your mailbox to the post instead of using nails is perfectly acceptable.
2. If you forget a syllable (or two) out of a word, not many people will even notice. Ben was talking about Redbox's statitians instead of statistitians, and nobody blinked an eye except for me today.
3. You just never know where (or IN what) somebody lives. It is always a guessing game. Today, we dropped off a fellow ward member at his house, and I'm tellin' ya, he lives in a BUS! It was awesome, although just not for me.
4. You can feel like you are in the mountains of Utah by just going to the park down the street that is surrounded by a myriad of trees.
5. DB has loosely picked up the ever popular term, "Y'all," but he only uses it when he is acting like an authoritarian, because that is what his teacher says.
6. You can sell anything you want on the side of the road. Today we drove past a stew sale. We were later warned to be VERY careful about roadside stew, as there can be some very interesting ingredients in stew here. Meat and vegetables take on a whole new meaning. Apparently roadside BBQ, and crawfish can be quite lucrative.
