Back to myself

The birds have left the building. They flew the coop. Adios. Good riddance, if you ask me. They left on Friday, which turned out to be a pretty good day for them to leave. It gave me the opportunity to return to my normal unsentimental, cold-hearted self. AHHH, it feels nice to be back. Those dang birds were really throwing me for a loop! I wasn't even sure who I was anymore! It was nice to go to kindergarten "graduation" and be back to myself and not have to worry about bursting out in tears in pride/sadness/wonder/whatever over the commencement of my son from Kindergarten to.......well, not the rest of his life, but 1st grade.

Now, with this post I really don't want to offend any of my dear friends who also have kiddos graduation from kindergarten this year, but I know that here in TN, people were looking like it was a college graduation! People were all dressed up, brought balloons, had all sorts of extended family there, and were checking their kids out of school early to go eat after the "commencement." Now, Ben didn't even come because he was in Chicago for Leadership Training, so it was just me and JT, dressed in what we happened to put on that day. I am proud to report that I did put on makeup and do my hair, so that is something pretty good for me.

I did, however feel guilty enough that I let DB choose dinner for the night (pizza, of course) and we had a pizza picnic in our front room with a movie. CONGRATULATIONS, DB! And since we already had tickets to the baseball game the next day, I just said that was his "present" for "graduating." So there you go, I conformed.

Maybe I just don' t get it. It is Kindergarten. What is the big deal? They aren't even CLOSE to finishing, really. It is mostly the beginning of the end for them, isn't it? Is it just positive reinforcement? Like we are saying, "See how easy this was! You did it! Now only 16+ more years to go to get a degree! And you can have another party just like this one when you are done!"

Like I said, the birds are gone, and I am back to myself.

I loved this post. Kindergarten Graduation is an interesting phenomenon. I will admit that hearing kids sing about growing up always gets me, but I wouldn't be checking my kids out early to go out to eat either. Good job DB!

LOL! Amanda, I miss you! You make me laugh. I read this post to Jarom and he had to laugh too. I totally am with you about the whole kindergarten graduation thing. Hailey's is coming up and I can't remember when! This week, sometime, I think...

Whew! Glad you're back to your heartless self. I don't see what the big deal about kinder graduation is either...guess I'm heartless too.

Ha ha! I have the same sentiment! Garrett had preschool graduation and it was cute and all...but really! Do we have to celebrate every little thing?

See you soon!
